The month of May is more than just another month of football – it is the month where legacies are made.

It is the month where sparks fly – trophies are won & 1 goal can turn a player into a club legend; 1 moment can save a season & 1 mistake can ruin it!

The “moment of reckoning” has arrived in the PSL.

By Saturday, the 23rd of May, all 16 teams would have played 15 matches home and away.

As Mamelodi Sundowns fans and Buccaneers hold on to dreams of a Nelson Makamo-designed trophy, the tight three-way battle to survive at the bottom intensifies.

Over the years, the PSL has seen several seasons where the title and demotions to the second tier were decided on the final day.

The league has been settled by goal difference on several occasions:

In 1999, the PSL witnessed one of the closest races in its history, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs both finished on 75 points. Sundowns won the title on goal difference after beating Cape Town Spurs 2-0 on the final day, while Chiefs’ 5-1 win over Dynamos was not enough to close the gap.

A decade later, SuperSport United won the league on goal difference over Orlando Pirates. Both teams finished on 55 points, but SuperSport’s superior scoring record throughout the season secured their second consecutive title.

Orlando Pirates secured the title on goal difference on the final day of the 2010/11 season – will history repeat itself on Saturday? The club have endured a 14-year league title drought.

Marumo Gallants in 2022–23 and AmaZulu in 2014–15 were relegated following dramatic final matches. ‘Bahlabane ba Ntwa’ would have to put up a spiritede fight to survive this time around.

Saturday’s final matches will be played simultaneously; dynasties will be on the line. The title will be decided. The tension is growing. The excitement is building – a historic final day looms…….
